Chair caning can be described as;

1. French caning which is hand woven caning. You can tell if the chair is French caned by looking under the seat and if the chair has holes in the wood and cane is woven through those holes your chair is French Caned.

2. Blind caning; if the cane is in the holes in the wood and the holes do not go through the wood and it looks to have small wood plugs in the hole to hold the caning in , your chair is Blind Caned.

3. It could be Sheet Caned which is the most popular. In Sheet Caning you will have a frame bordering the seat about 3/8’s” wide to 1/4 “wide. There will be no holes in the woods.

We do all three types of caning. Plus we match up the color of the new cane to the old.

We can use different kinds of materials:

Rush is usually a cord of natural seaweed or a fiber material tightly twisted into a cord or rope material.

Natural seaweed is costly but gives the old world look. Diameters of the cords can be 4/32", 5/32", 6/32" and 7/32". Both materials hold up very well.
